About

I was first introduced to ham radio after watching my uncle Dave, W1DWF (formally WB1FCV),
make contacts all over the world using no more than a wire antenna. I was probably 10 or 11
years old and hooked from the start. In 1991 I managed to struggle through the 5 wpm to obtain
my Novice ticket. I received my first call, KA1YQC. Pretty soon after that I earned my technician and technician plus tickets and did a lot of local repeater radio due to my license restrictions. When the FCC ended the code requirements for General and Extra I quickly upgraded. In December of 2022 I upgraded my call to KW1X.

After beating the phone and digital modes into the ground I sort of lost interest in ham radio. I always wanted to be a CW operator but always got frustrated when I maxed out at around 8-10WPM. Enter CWops! In 2018 I started with the CW academy and after two years passed all the courses and received my CWops number, #2718. Since then my passion for ham radio has only grown.

I am a member the Yankee Clipper Contest Club, Long Island CW Club, CWops, Providence Radio Association and the Blackstone Valley Amateur Radio Club where I was chairman of the Field Day Committee for both the 2023 and 2024 events.

I enjoy contesting, award chasing, DXing and portable operation. Adding morse code as my now primary mode has been awesome and I’d to thank all the advisors from the CW academy that helped me along the way. If your considering trying to learn CW I highly recommend the CW academy.

I am married and have two wonderful children who show absolutely no interest in ham radio, as
much as I have tried. It’s tough to compete with cell phones and video games. I am a licensed
electrician and have had my own business for the past 15 years but have been in the business for
around 30. I am also involved in Scouting with both my daughter and son.

I look forward to the CWTs every Wednesday and hope to work as many
members as possible.

Thanks in advance for the Q’s!
